Starr Brookins has joined Smoak, Chistolini & Barnett as an Associate Attorney.
Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, Starr was raised as the dependent of an active military member. In 2004, she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School’s Law and Criminal Justice Magnet Academy as Salutatorian in Tampa, Florida. In 2007, Starr received her Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Tampa where she was an extremely active leader.
Starr subsequently graduated from The George Washington University Law School as a Presidential Merit Scholar. While in law school, she obtained one of the highest grades in her Corporations course, which resulted in her being selected to serve as a tutor. During law school, Starr obtained clinical experience, as well as experience on the Hill, in the federal government, in the private sector, and with Verizon’s General Counsel.
After becoming a member of the Florida Bar in 2011, Starr had the honor of representing the State of Florida to ensure the safety of our most vulnerable citizens – children. While with Children’s Legal Services (“CLS”), Starr was promoted from Junior to Senior Trial Attorney within 9 months of hire and she received several accolades due to her service within the community, as well as her superb advocacy skills. During her time with CLS, Starr successfully first-chaired hundreds of hearings and trials with a 99% success rate. Prior to joining Smoak, Chistolini & Barnett as an Associate Attorney in February of 2016, Starr served as an Appellate Attorney with the Office of the Public Defender for almost 2 years.
